Paperz IP sponsored the Design Hackathon organized by Creatricks, which took place from September 20 to 21, 2023, during France Design Week. Here is a recap of this event that marked the collaboration between the creative and legal realms.

This event drew a diverse group of around sixty participants who gathered to discuss, contemplate, and collaboratively devise practical solutions to the challenges faced by designers and artists.

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is more than just a competition. It’s a dynamic gathering where professionals, including designers, legal experts, and creatives, collaborate intensively on specific topics. In this event, participants were tasked with exploring innovative solutions for the protection of design.

The Event

Throughout the event, workshops addressed crucial issues such as access to the artist-author status, recognition of the originality of works, and identification of protective clauses in contracts. Over 60 participants contributed to making this hackathon a success, collectively contemplating concrete solutions to enhance the protection of French design.

As specialists in design research closely linked with intellectual property, we found it important to lend support to the organizers such as Pierre Massot, a Paris-based lawyer specializing in intellectual property, Caroline Le Goffic and Stéphanie Le Cam, both professors/Maîtres de conférences, who work towards better protecting the rights of designers.
